'Sex And The City' Outfit Inspiration For Every Day Of The Week, Because That Newspaper Dress Is Perfect For Friday

I have been studying since I was a pre-teen for this moment. I, Samantha Schnurr, have been tasked with styling a hypothetical week of outfits using only Sex And the City outfits. In preparation for this holy task, I revisited every episode of the six season series and memorized every slip dress, every Manolo Blahnik, and every Cosmo seen on-screen — for you, of course.

Now, we hail these four women as the HBO queens of fashion, but not every outfit was a hit —some, in fact, were barely wearable. (C'mon, Carrie. Don't try to pretend you just had a million layer ballgown lying around waiting to get flown to Paris.) But I digress. Instead, the goal of this project was to pick the most glamorous looks, while still maintaining some kind of hold on reality. I wanted the inspiration to be feasible, people!

Without further ado, feast your eyes on a full week's worth of outfit picks fit for any occasion. From a visit with the rents to a romantic evening with a new flame, the ladies of Sex And The City wore just the thing you're looking for.

Monday: Starting the Week Off Right

If there is one thing I learned from my dear mother, it’s that green is a power color. When you want to start the week off on the right foot with a fierce outfit, draw some inspiration from Carrie’s infamous apartment shopping ensemble from the first Sex And The City movie.

If you don’t have these exact items, don’t fret. Instead, pay attention to the major elements at play: a vibrant color, layering, and statement accessories — the three steps to sartorial success.

Tuesday: Work All-Star

It’s Tuesday and you have a major meeting with your boss at work. Perhaps it’s a presentation, perhaps it’s an evaluation, perhaps you just want to look better than everyone else. I have just the ticket from Season 4 when our girl Carrie took her first steps into the offices of Vogue Magazine. If Bradshaw thought this outfit was fit for the eyes of Anna Wintour, it’s safe to assume an outfit like this will pass with flying colors for any boss.

The key takeaways from this look are tailoring and a dash of flair. While Bradshaw’s suit is a typical black pinstripe jacket and pencil skirt, the neckline makes the eye dance — and so will you out of the office after a perfect meeting.

Wednesday: A Visit With The Rents

Mom and Dad just called. Surprise! They’re in town and want to see your shining face at dinner at 8pm. Oops, you were planning on spending the evening extracting your blackheads while watching SVU reruns, but I guess you’ll just have to put your bra back on.

For this occasion, you want to trick your parents into thinking everything about your life is absolutely perfect. Yes, Mom, I have been moisturizing. No, Dad, I am not speaking to my ex. What better way to convince them that your life isn’t in complete shambles than with a stellar outfit? I picked this look from Sex And The City 2 because it’s casual and easy without looking lazy. Extra points if you throw on a statement necklace to distract them from asking you when you will get married and give them grandchildren.

Thursday: Happy Hour

It’s almost Friday, which means you need a drink. Happy Hour it is. For this occasion, I selected this cerulean look from the first Sex And The City movie. Aside from the butterfly sleeves, this is your standard boat neck day dress. Totally doable, but just a little sexier for the evening hours. Throw on a stack of gold necklaces, some peep-toed pumps, and you won’t have to pay for a drink all night.

Friday: A Night on the Town

You made it! It’s finally Friday and it’s time to have yourself a ball. Whether you’re hitting the dance floor, the bar, or just your kitchen, you’re going to need a killlleeeerrrr outfit to go with the night’s festivities. I can’t think of a better choice than Carrie’s signature backless newspaper dress.

Demure in the front, bold in the back, you are bound to catch someone’s eye in a silhouette similar to this. Look for a dress with a secret bonus, whether it be subtle cut-outs, an asymmetrical hem, a slit, or in this case, a dangerously low back. When it’s right, it’s right, and this is definitely right.

Saturday: A Romantic Evening

If Friday night was for your pals, Saturday night is for your lover — and who better to be inspired by in that department than Samantha Jones? On an initial date with Smith Jerrod, Samantha breaks out this sequin gold number that leaves very little to the imagination. In plain English, this dress is smokin’.

While I assume this particular dress cost thousands of dollars, we can still draw inspiration from the elements at work here: cutouts, an elaborate neckline, and a distinct color and texture. Need to make a grand entrance? Go for sequins, go for gold, or go for a deep-v. Or go for all three at once. Or, just go for sweatpants and a burrito. Whatever you want.

Sunday: Brunch

You’re up at 8am. There is a devastatingly good-looking person in your bed and you have to meet your girlfriends in an hour for the most vital food group: brunch. Take a note from Carrie Bradshaw’s first visit to a therapist with this old Hollywood-inspired floral halter dress.

You really can’t go wrong with this selection for the spring and summer. It’s easy, breezy, and most importantly, you can avoid wearing pants yet again. Because the dress is gorgeous on its own, you don’t have to worry about accessorizing, which means you have a little extra time to sleep off Saturday night’s naughty activities.

PS: Haiiii Jon Bon Jovi!
