Cecily Strong's Best Lines On Hillary Clinton

by Alicia Lu

The 2015 White House Correspondents' Dinner closed with a routine from the night's emcee, Cecily Strong. You might know her from her current stint on Saturday Night Live, but after tonight, she'll from here on out be known as Hillary Clinton's No. 1 fan. Cecily Strong basically endorsed Hillary Clinton for president when she pretty much roasted everyone else, from President Obama to every single news outlet in the audience. After introducing herself as "sort of a mashup of all the people in Hillary Clinton's announcement video," Strong delivered line after hilarious line on Clinton.

Even though she wasn't in attendance, Hillary Clinton was on everyone's tongues at Saturday's dinner. One of the more memorable lines was from President Obama — through his anger translator, Luther — who said, "Khaleesi is coming to Westeros," in 2016, that is. On a night dedicated to roasting the politicians and journalists, it seemed like the speakers had nothing but praise for Clinton — especially Strong.

Strong opened her speech with a very loaded statement:

It feels right to have a woman follow president Obama, doesn't it?

She then proceeded to skewer a variety of targets seemingly indiscriminately. For example? She roasted both the Washington Hilton and congressmen (for their extra-curricular activities) in one joke:

It is great to be here at the Washington Hilton … is something a prostitute might say to a congressman.

She called the Secret Service "the only law enforcement agency in the country that will get in trouble if a black man gets shot." She gibed Obama for being too light on ISIS and for not visiting Paris after the Charlie Hebdo attacks. She even lampooned BuzzFeed.

BuzzFeed is here, but I can show you a listicle of 17 reasons why they shouldn’t be.

However, when it came time to talk about Clinton, Strong had way more praise than jabs. The worst hit that Clinton took was in regards to the Clinton Foundation's scrutinized foreign donations.

Our relationship [with Israel] will be better in the next administration just as soon as Israel makes a generous donation to the Clinton Foundation.

But after that, Strong's speech pretty much turned into an endorsement for Hillary 2016.

There are so many people running for president. Like, who should I even vote for? [Whispers "Hillary."]
There's Marco Rubio. It's like, who's better than Marco Rubio? [Whispers "Hillary."]
And there's Rand Paul? I mean, who's more knowledgeable about foreign policy than Rand Paul? [Whispers "Hillary."]
And, of course, there's Hillary. I mean, who's better on the economy than Hillary? [Whispers "Bill."]

OK, maybe that was a light jab too, but a pretty funny one.

Strong then painted the Democratic candidate as the badass that she is.

Hillary's campaign slogan is "It's Your Time," which I assume is what she says into a mirror while dead-lifting 200 pounds.

And as far as Strong is concerned, Clinton's a shoo-in.

I’m excited about Hillary running, though I’m not sure she’s excited about having to run. I imagine she feels the same way Meryl Streep feels when she’s asked to audition for something: Are you kidding me?

She then turns her attention to the media, asking them to take a repeat-after-me oath for the upcoming election season:

I solemnly swear not to talk about Hillary's appearance ... because that is not journalism. Also, Cecily Strong looks great tonight.

Although Strong insists that she is not endorsing Clinton ("I would never blindly endorse a candidate I don't play on SNL"), her message is pretty clear. Strong is ready for Clinton to take the Irone Throne in 2016.
