George Zimmerman Can't Stay Out Of Trouble

by Lauren Holter

George Zimmerman was acquitted for Trayvon Martin's death in 2013 and can't manage to stay out of trouble. On Monday, Zimmerman was involved in a shooting in Florida with a man he had a previous altercation with. In a news conference, police officer Bianca Gillett said the other man, Matthew Apperson, called 911 to report the shooting and that Zimmerman didn't fire any shot, but it's unclear exactly what happened between the men. Zimmerman's attorney, Don West, told News 13 Orlando that a bullet missed Zimmerman's head, but he was sprayed with glass from his windshield and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Apperson's attorney says Apperson was acting in self defense. This is just Zimmerman's latest of multiple run-ins with the law since his high-profile trial for the shooting of Martin.

Zimmerman and Apperson had a road rage confrontation in 2014 in which Apperson claimed Zimmerman threatened to kill him. Zimmerman allegedly pulled up next to Apperson's car and yelled, "Why are you pointing your finger at me? I'll (expletive) kill you. Do you know who I am?" Then two days later, Apperson called the cops again, claiming Zimmerman followed him to work. When police questioned Zimmerman, he confirmed that he and Apperson had an argument in their cars, but that the second incident was purely coincidence and he just happened to be in the same place as Apperson.

Before Monday's incident, the last time Zimmerman made headlines was in March when he released a video saying that a person in his circumstance couldn't feel guilty. "Only in a true life-and-death scenario can you have mental clearness to know that you cannot feel guilty for surviving," he said in the video. Zimmerman also blamed President Obama, who he called Barack Hussein Obama, in the video for making the case seem like a racial issue. Zimmerman said he was speaking publicly because the U.S. Department of Justice investigation into Martin's death concluded, deciding not to prosecute Zimmerman for a hate crime.

Back in January, a woman called the police on Zimmerman for allegedly throwing a wine bottle at her during an argument, but the aggravated assault charges were dropped and only a few months after he was acquitted for murder in 2013, Zimmerman's wife called 911 saying that Zimmerman had pulled a gun on her and her father. "I don't know what he's capable of," Shellie Zimmerman said to the 911 dispatcher. "I am really, really scared." She dropped the charges, but the couple divorced.
