Ward's Plan Backfired On 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'

Whoa — I guess having Melinda May's face has its downfalls. While taking out Bobbi Morse's rescue squad on the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finale, Ward killed Kara, also known as Agent 33. Given the complicated history between Ward and May, I think it's kind of poetic that Grant killed his new lover while she was wearing his old lover's face. Weird villainous affair with Grant aside, Kara Palamas was a very interesting character and I'm sad to see her go. We never got to know her that well, especially when she spent so much screen time masquerading as other people.

I kind of loved that Kara's vendetta against Bobbi Morse was holding her accountable for the things she did while working undercover at Hydra. On a show with superpowers and characters that play fast and loose with the law, it's nice to have real world consequences. Bobbi sacrificed a fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent, someone she knew personally, to torturous mind control at the hands of Hydra. Kara lost her entire identity while Bobbi got her life back. It sucks! However, kidnapping and torture may not have been the best route. Unfortunately, Kara played the price.

But Bobbi also brought up a very good point. Ward was manipulating Kara just like Bakshi and Hydra did, but in a different way. He's emotionally abusive. I'm glad that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. acknowledged how troubling their relationship was.

Now where does this leave Ward? He's not working with Hydra, S.H.I.E.L.D., or Kara anymore. Yet again, he's a free agent with an uncertain agenda. Where does he go from here? Don't think I didn't notice how Bobbi's confrontation with Kara did a quick summary of Ward's background.

At the end of the episode, Ward assembled a "team" of roughnecks and announced that he was searching for the names of Hydra leaders in the name of closure. Is Ward the leader of Hydra now? I'm not sure what all of this means yet, but unless Ward is planning on leaving Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for good, he's going to need to find a new endgame pretty quickly.
