Tracy Morgan Reaches Settlement With Walmart

Almost one year after being involved in a fatal accident with a Walmart truck, comedian Tracy Morgan has reached a settlement with Walmart. In July 2014, Morgan filed a lawsuit against Walmart after one of the company's trucks slammed into his limo, which was also carrying comedian James McNair, Morgan's assistant Jeffrey Millea, Millea's wife Krista, and comedian Ardie Fuqua. Morgan was seriously injured, while McNair was killed. Per New York's ABC 7 News, Morgan released the following written statement about the settlement. He said,

Walmart did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families. I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably.

As for Walmart, president and CEO Greg Foran released a statement saying, "Our thoughts continue to go out to everyone that was involved in the accident."

Not only did the 45-year-old break his femur, nose, and several ribs, but as Morgan's lawyer said, he suffered a traumatic brain injury as well. In March, Morgan's lawyer revealed that the comedian was still recovering, but that he's "working very hard to get better, physically, emotionally, and mentally."

At the time that the suit was filed, Morgan and the other survivors alleged that the Walmart driver, Kevin Roper, was driving after being “awake for more than 24 consecutive hours," which caused him to fall asleep at the wheel and cause the accident. According to ABC News, "Roper has pleaded not guilty to assault and death by auto charges."

In addition to Morgan receiving a settlement, in March 2015 McNair's family and Walmart also reached a settlement in a payout of $10 million. Details of Morgan's settlement are not available.
