Lady Gaga (Almost) Frees The Nipple With This Look

by Dana Reszutek

Don't think Lady Gaga's jazz album-era has stopped the daring artist from continuing to sport some of the more revealing fashion trends. Gaga wore a naked dress on stage, taking to Instagram Wednesday night to share her latest look, which was from her tour with Tony Bennett for their Grammy-winning album Cheek to Cheek.

Gaga admitted to making "a few alterations" to the sheer red dotted halter dress, at the tour's Vancouver show, tagging stylist Brandon Maxwell and all but emulating the classic dancer emoji. Rocking red and her newly-blonde locks — another fashion alteration Mother Monster shared with her Instagram followers — Gaga accessorized the classic-cut gown with an enormous red boa, and matching sparkly pasties, because, why not?

An almost-nude look from Gaga isn't all that shocking, as the star has proved that getting naked is pretty much second nature to her, from working with performance artist Marina Abramovic, to rocking her barely-there seashell bra and thong at the 2013 MTV awards.

Rihanna may have kicked off the naked dress trend at the 2014 CFDA awards with a 20s-inspired Adam Selman crystal creation, but let's face it — Gaga has been freeing the nipple for quite some time, and this stage look is just the latest of many risqué pieces worn by the pop star. When she was just making waves in the music industry, Gaga was already taking it off, or just not wearing it in the first place, on stage with a sheer latex dress matched with nude panties and white tape during her 2010 Monster Ball tour.

The sheer fabric/tape combination — this seems to be a favorite of Gaga's — struck again with an electric blue sheer dress during a promotional event for her album Born This Way back in 2011.

Leaving her first performance of her closing residency at New York's Roseland Ballroom, Gaga wore roses, and well, not much else, taking the nude trend to an avant garde level with a sheer body suit, flower appliqués, and some kind of headpiece that only Lady Gaga would even dare to wear.

Though shocking, Gaga's most recent take of the naked dress still shows the truly elegant side of the singer's style that's come with her entrance into the jazz world. The dress goes to show that less really is sometimes more, but I'm still wondering what Mr. Bennett thought about all this.
