Pharrell's CFDA Outfit Is Blue Leather & Badass

by Marc Cuenco

Rihanna is a tough act to follow, but Pharrell Williams' 2015 CFDA Awards outfit truly lived up to his title as this year's CFDA Fashion Icon winner. The fashion savant wore a blue leather biker jacket over a red shirt and jeans to the star-studded awards presentation held at Lincoln Center. Pharrell accessorized with a green newsboy cap, black leather oxfords, and of course his gold Apple Watch. While it's clear that Skateboard P was not looking to top Rih's crystal-studded ensemble from last year's event, he still looked extremely cool, effortless, and true to his personal style.

Meanwhile, Pharrell's wife, model Helen Lasichanh, equally stunned in her black leather jacket and check patterned skirt. The lovely couple coordinated their red carpet looks once again, which they have been known to do, including their black and white shorts at the 2012 CFDAs. They later posed for photos with the CFDAs other stylish duo, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

Pharrell's knowledge of fashion history alone makes him a worthy recipient of the CFDA Fashion Icon award. Even the Vivienne Westwood hat that he infamously wore to the Grammy Awards has a rich and interesting back story that only someone with a true appreciation and respect for the craft can pull off. However, what makes him and his wardrobe even more exciting to watch is the fact that Pharrell is inspired by street style just as much as he is by high end designers.

“I get my style from just random people, everyday people — like, construction is interesting to me," he said. "Everyday things, you know, service uniforms, sports, skateboarding, normcore, grandma sweaters — all of that stuff is interesting to me.”

Bustle's Jen Schildgen listed seven reasons why Pharrell is a fashion icon, and his blue motorcycle jacket and casual outfit to the 2015 CFDA Awards just added another layer to his avant garde and influential sense of style. To that I say, keep on doing YOU, Skateboard P.
