The Cat Horoscope App You Didn't Know You Need

I'm willing to bet that you have never once thought, “Gee, I wish I had a horoscope app for my cat” — but trust me, you're definitely going to want to file this one under, “Things I Didn't Know I Needed.” Because need it, you shall: The new ZodiaCat app bestows magnificent, personal horoscopes upon your lovable little kitty each and every day. Is it absurd? Yes. Is it also the best? Heck, and yes.

Created by Itchy Brains (sidenote: Best development studio name ever) and available for Apple devices, ZodiaCat does exactly what you think it does: It reads your favorite feline's fate in the stars, helping them solve big problems, celebrate their successes, and more. You can register up to two cats at a time; when you first log on, the app asks you for your cats' names and astrological signs, as well as instructs you to pick avatars for each of them. Don't know your cat's birthday? No problem! You can also simply pick what you think your cat's astrological sign should be based on their fuzzy little personalities.

I'll be honest: I don't totally buy into astrology. To me, it's mostly just a fun way to derp away some time, not something according to which I'll run my whole life. But that's kind of the point of ZodiaCat, which has its sandpaper-y tongue firmly in its whisker-covered cheek — obviously your cat doesn't care about its zodiac sign, and even if it did, it would probably turn its tail up at it and stalk off to its favorite hiding place in response. Because that's just what cats do. The app is an entertaining diversion for humans who love cats, though, and that is what makes it worth it.

Oh, and there's also this: You can download the “lite” version of the app for free, but it's worth it to shell out 99 cents for the full version. Besides allowing your feline friend access to an unlimited amount of horoscopes (hey, a kitty's got to figure out what to do when Mercury is in retrograde, too), it also helps out a terrific cause. Itchy Brains will be donating 20 percent of the proceeds earned from the paid version of ZodiaCat to the Best Friends Animal Society. I'd call that a win.

The folks at Itchy Brains were nice enough to give me and my own furry buddies a sneak peek at the app before its launch today (although note carefully that all opinions are my own), and Nymeria and Arya have found their predictions quite useful, indeed (or at least, that's what I assume they've been trying to tell me by pawing at my phone screen). As is often the case with folks who adopt rescues, my boyfriend and I aren't totally sure when each cat's birthday is; we have a general idea, though, based on how old the shelter thought they were when we adopted them, so I worked off of that estimation. Accordingly, that makes Arya a Capricorn and Nym an Aquarius. Here are a few of the things their horoscopes have helped them work out so far — and check out both the ZodiaCat Lite and ZodiaCat for yourself on the iTunes App Store.

1. The Big Decisions

Nym decided it was a scratching post. She's wrong, but I respect her ability to stick with her convictions.

2. How to Play to Their Strengths

Arya is really good at acting indifferent.

3. When to Have Faith in Themselves

My right arm and both my feet can attest to that killer instinct. She likes to tackle them when I'm not looking.

4. The Beauty of Waiting and Seeing

More accurately, that would be “sitting on the computer tower,” or “sitting on the cat castle,” or occasionally “sitting on the coffee table” — but it's a fair point anyway.

5. When to Exercise Caution

This one applied to them both that day.
