3 Beautiful Buildings By The 2 WTC Designer

The design for the final World Trade Center tower was revealed Tuesday by the Danish architect, Bjarke Ingels. The last of four buildings at the site, Two World Trade Center will be the second tallest of the WTC skyscrapers and the third tallest building in New York City, rising 81 stories and 1,340 feet high — only 1 World Trade Center and 432 Park Ave. will be taller. Along with the stunning new 2 World Trade Center, Bjarke Ingels has designed many other cool buildings.

Two World Trade Center was designed to look like seven boxes stacked on top of one another, creating room for parks and plazas at each setback. In a video revealing his plans for the building, Ingels said it will "finally restore the majestic skyline of Manhattan and unite the streetscapes of Tribeca with the towers downtown." From Tribeca, Two World Trade Center will appear to be a "vertical village of singular buildings" stacked on top of each other, and from the WTC, it will look like a unified tower, Ingels said. The tower is scheduled to open by September 2021, the 20th anniversary of the attacks, and already has two tenants: News Corp. and 21st Century Fox, which will occupy the lower half of the building.

8 House

8 House, also called Big House, is a mixed-use building in Copenhagen, with apartments at the top and retail spaces at the bottom. The two sloped green roofs evoke Denmark's farmland, while also reducing the urban heat island effect. Completed in 2010, 8 House won multiple design awards, including Best Housing at the 2011 World Architecture Festival.

Danish Maritime Museum

Ingels designed the Danish Maritime Museum, which was finished in 2013, around the 60-year-old dock walls at the site in Helsingor, Denmark, with the galleries underground. Two-level walkways connect different parts of the museum and give the building a jagged appearance. Along with other awards, the museum won a Royal Institute of British Architects European Award in 2014.

Mountain Dwellings

The Mountain Dwellings apartment building in Copenhagen combines the benefits of living both in a green suburb and a dense city. Each apartment has a "backyard," yet it's still a large apartment complex with a parking garage underneath. It also won numerous awards, including Best Housing at the 2008 World Architecture Festival.
