Scott Schuman Just Can't Stop Designing Shoes

Fresh off the heels of designing a collection of loafers for Tod's, fashion photographer The Sartorialist. has already laced up and is back at it. This time, Scott Schuman teamed up with Sutor Mantellasi, an Italian heritage label founded in 1912. Shoeman, er, Schuman reimagined the brand's iconic oxfords for a limited edition version in tribute to Italy's most stylish man (and Sophia Loren's main squeeze) Marcello Mastroianni.

Mastroianni was a lifelong fan of the shoemakers, donning them for decades. This collection, and the Sartorialist collaboration, celebrates the 50th anniversary of Mastroianni's Sutor Mantellasi-covered footprints that are immortalized, alongside his star, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"It looks like a dress shoe, but I added a Goodyear-welted commando sole and pebble-grain leather," Schuman told Footwear News earlier this week. "You get the sheen and elegance, but at any moment, you can still be a man and go dancing or do something a little tougher. They are not metrosexual at all." Schuman plans to go casual with his own pair, he says in the interview, rocking them with dark jeans and a light jacket.

The shoe, along with the brand's full collection, was unveiled at Pitti Uomo earlier this month. And if the shoe is well-received, Schuman says, a larger collection could be up next.

The collaboration was feted on Tuesday evening in true fashion form: With a multo Instagrammable dinner at a former convent just outside of Florence, Italy.

Here's a peek at Schuman's shoe, which has the brand's trademark bright blue sole.

In addition to Schuman, four other tastemakers were chosen to create a limited edition shoes for the collection, which began in January with shoe designer Justin Deakin and will close out in September with fashion consultant and rock and roll correspondent Thomas Erber.
