USA Canceled This One Today

by Alanna Bennett

Sorry, USA fans, you're losing yet another show whose costume stock seems to come entirely from Banana Republic. Sorry about that. But yes, USA has canceled Necessary Roughness. Weep for it as you wish. Let's obit it, shall we?

Necessary Roughness followed divorcée Dr. Dani Santino and her time (at first) as a therapist for a professional football team. She found herself the object of the affections of a whole horde of athletes because of this, as well as many other fancy/wealthy/pretty people.

It starred Callie Thorne as Santino, a role for which she received a Golden Globe nomination in 2011. Unfortunately for Santino and everyone else involved, the show's ratings never really matched that first season high, and it wasn't enough for USA. It is survived by other USA shows Graceland, White Collar, Covert Affairs, and Suits, all but one of which also feature attractive people in business attire.

The series also starred Marc Blucas as Matt Donnally, Scott Cohen as Nico Careles, and John Stamos as Connor McClane. Between Max Medina (Cohen) and Riley Finn (Blucas), this show really made a showcase of hiring the ex-boyfriends of WB protagonists, didn't it?

Alas, no more: After three seasons and 38 episodes, USA has put the axe down on Necessary Roughness, deeming it, well, ironically unnecessary.
