Now that DOMA and Prop 8 Have Been Overturned, Which Celeb Couples Will Tie the Knot?

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Proposition 8 were "unconstitutional" in ruling that a state can ban same-sex marriage. While this doesn't mean that same-sex marriage is legal across the United States, it's one step closer to true marriage equality. One way that celebrities have been vocal in showing their support for gay marriage? By waiting to tie the knot until everyone can. Here are a list of celebrities who may now be getting hitched in the near future. No more excuses!

What celebrities were holding off on a wedding for marriage equality?

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard

One of the cutest celebrity couples ever (that sloth video — hello!) said they wouldn't get married until same-sex marriage is legalized in California. But that's certainly about to change — following the news about Prop 8, Bell proposed to Shepard on Twitter. He said yes.

Pauley Perrette and Thomas Arklie

The NCIS actress has been engaged to her fiancé Thomas Arklie for years, but she said that they won't get married until Prop 8 and DOMA were overturned. Looks like it's time to get yourself a wedding dress, Pauley!

Jason Mraz and Tristan Prettyman

When the long-time couple got engaged, they claimed that they wouldn't get married until same-sex marriage was legalized. Unfortunately, the couple split up... but if you listen to Jason Mraz's "I Won't Give Up" (or basically the entirety of Prettyman's new album) we wouldn't be too surprised if a reconciliation was in the works.

Charlize Theron

Charlize stated that she would wait until marriage was legal everywhere before marrying her then-boyfriend Stuart Townsend. Unfortunately, the couple split, but Charlize still believes in waiting for equality.

Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham isn't about to race anyone down the aisle anytime soon. Her boyfriend and fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff said the Girls star won't consider getting married until all marriage is equal. Her character Hannah, however, won't get married until she can learn to be in stable relationships.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

The Hollywood It Couple have formed a life together without a marriage license. Though the two have children together — both adopted and biological — and got engaged in 2012, Pitt says that they won't get married until everyone can. "We would not be getting married until everyone in this country had the right to get married,'" Pitt told Ellen DeGeneres. "We live in this great country that is about freedoms — defined by our freedoms and equality — and yet we allow this discrimination to go on everyday. That's not what we're about. That's not what makes us great. Until that is reserved... I just don't get it."
