Tweed Goes Goth In Chanel's New Fall Campaign

by Lindsey Rose Black

In Chanel's latest campaign, tame and timeless tweed gets a serious edge. As revealed in Fashionista, classic goes punk goth in Chanel's new fall campaign and the results are mesmerizing. The iconic style of Chanel just got a serious dose of modern, dark glam.

The label's 2015 couture show was chic as ever, but the fall campaign pictures take on a decidedly more punk goth tone. Shot in black and white, models Anna Ewers and Lindsey Wixson stand rigidly posed against a stark grey back drop. The layers of textured tweed the models are draped in scream classic Chanel, but the dark tones and thigh high skirt slit suggest the label is ready to play with new designs.

Additionally, the models' hairstyles, makeup, and minimal but impactful accessories prove Lagerfeld is fearlessly entering new territory. Instead of Ewers and Wixson rocking more traditional chignons or loose curls, the two are seen in faux mohawks finished off with spiky tips. Their faces exhibit some serious #DontMessWithMe 'tude, and the heavy black cat eye against otherwise pale faces is startling and dramatic. The gaudy brooches on each model's neck adds a vampy sophistication, balancing out the dark punk feel with Chanel's signature old school glam.

The whole "vampy punk goth" vibe is clearly having a moment. Beyond Chanel, Alexander Wang's new collection takes a harder but similar approach to it's current fall campaign. Which couture label is next?
