I'm Canceling All My Salon Appointments After Using SHEGLAM’s New Blowout Brush

Sorry to my stylist, but this tool is making it so easy to do my hair at home.

I’ve always had a bit of a complicated relationship with heated round brushes. My past experiences have included fried ends, flat results, a lot of tangles, and arguably the worst offense, a halo of frizz. So when I was handed SHEGLAM’s Hydra Shot Steam Blowout Brush Pro to test, I figured I already knew how this story would end (they lost me at steam). But as it turns out, this wasn’t just another blow dryer/round brush hybrid — it was something entirely different. In fact, it delivered such a smooth, bouncy blowout, I realized my salon appointments had some serious competition.

So, What Is A Blowout Brush?

For starters, this isn’t a hair dryer. SHEGLAM's tool instead combines steam technology with customizable settings designed to be used on dry hair. The idea is simple: use steam to help smooth and shape the hair while relying on less direct heat, resulting in a glossier finish with less heat stress.

The tool comes with a small water reservoir. I’ll admit, I was skeptical ooking at the tiny tank.I was convinced I'd be refilling it halfway through styling, but, wrong again – it lasted several sessions on my medium-thick hair before I needed to top it off.

Once I brushed out any knots in my hair, I selected the medium heat and steam setting (there are gentler options for fine hair and higher settings for thicker or coarser textures) and got to work. What surprised me most wasn't just how easily the brush glided through my hair, but how fast I was able to style it.

The Results

My hair is medium thickness that air dries wavy, with a side of frizz (as you can probably see from my “before” below). The under layers of my hair also get borderline curly, but the best part was this blowout brush reaches into the far inner corners of my hair to smooth each strand. The finished look was everything I hope for from a blowout: shiny, soft, and full of bounce without feeling stiff or overdone. Depending on how I angled the brush, I could create volume at the roots, soft bends through the lengths, or a sleeker, straighter finish — all with the same tool.

Even better? My hair didn't have that dry, crispy feeling I've come to expect after using hot tools.

Part of that comes down to the steam technology, but the Keratin Pro ceramic coating is also designed to distribute heat more evenly while helping minimize heat damage. (That said, I never skip a heat protectant, and I'd still recommend using one before styling.) I also appreciate that the brush offers 10 temperature settings and three steam levels, making it easy to tailor the experience to both your hair type and the style you're after. My wallet is also thanking me for saving on costly salon visits when I need to look put-together in a pinch. I’ve been reaching for it more and more when I need my hair to look like I got a pro blowout in just minutes.

If you've written off heated round brushes the way I had, this might be the one that changes your mind. So while I didn’t expect to be converted, safe to say this is the first tool I'll reach for when I want a salon-worthy blowout without booking the appointment.
