The world is still in a pandemic, but in Hollywood, the (awards) show must go on. The 2021 Golden Globe nominations were announced on Wednesday, Feb. 3, celebrating the best movies and TV series that 2020 had to offer — well, at least the titles that were released despite delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the chaos this caused the entertainment industry, history was made this morning.

For the first time in Globes history, three of the nominees for Best Director are women: Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman, Regina King for One Night in Miami..., and Chloé Zhao for Nomadland, the first Asian woman to be nominated in the category. The move comes after the Globes have shut out female directors for the past several years.

Overall, Mank was the most nominated film this year, earning six nods, including Amanda Seyfried for Best Supporting Actress. On the TV side, The Crown was the most nominated, also walking away with six nods, while Schitt's Creek earned five nominations for its beloved final season, including nods for all four of its stars, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Daniel Levy, and Annie Murphy. The very polarizing Emily In Paris was also nominated, somehow. Meanwhile, the critically acclaimed and emotionally devastating I May Destroy You got nothing.

The Globes were originally scheduled to take place in early January. However, due to the closure of movie theaters wreaking havoc on 2020's film release schedule, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to follow the Oscars' lead and postpone the Golden Globes. Thankfully, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are still set to host the Feb. 28 ceremony for the first time since 2015, meaning that we'll at least be able to laugh our way through the Globes, as per usual.
