The Best Tweets From The 2024 Golden Globes
Fans reacted to all the awards show’s most viral moments.
Just one week into the new year, the 81st Annual Golden Globes kicked off the 2024 awards season with a bang.
Hosted by Jo Koy and broadcasted live on CBS from The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, this year’s Golden Globes featured an Oppenheimer sweep, with more major wins for Succession, Poor Things, The Bear, and Beef. Barbie made history by taking home the inaugural award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award. Jennifer Lawrence, American Ferrera, and the Suits cast were among the A-list attendees behind some of the night’s most viral audience moments.
Swift was caught whispering to bestie Selena Gomez at one point. Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet were spotted kissing in the crowd during the awards show. This year’s Golden Globes certainly left plenty for viewers at home to talk about.
Taylor Swift Was Unamused
One of the first viral moments of the evening arrived when Koy made a Taylor Swift joke early on — and the singer didn’t seem to be a fan. Noting that the Golden Globes aired following an NFL double-header, the comedian said that the awards show would be different from a football game because there would be “fewer camera shots” of Swift.
At that exact moment, the camera caught Swift looking unamused as she took a sip from a champagne flute. “Taylor Swift didn’t look happy after that nfl comment from the host,” one viewer tweeted, while another added, “2024 outs: bad jokes about taylor swift. Give it up already.”
Bill Hader & Ali Wong Snuck In A Kiss
When Beef star Ali Wong won the award for Best Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television, boyfriend Bill Hader gave her a congratulatory kiss, prompting the internet to collectively remember that they’re a couple. “This was a fun reminder that Ali Wong and Bill Hader are dating,” one user wrote.
Meanwhile, this seemed to be new information to others. “Some of us did not know that Ali Wong and Bill Hader are dating and some of us need a moment to process,” another viewer added.
Kevin Costner Quoted Barbie
While presenting with America Ferrera, Kevin Costner quoted from the actor’s feminist Barbie monologue — much to the surprise of fans on X (formerly Twitter) who mostly credited the teleprompter. “Did you, Kevin Costner, memorize my monologue about womanhood from Barbie?” Ferrera asked. Without skipping a beat Costner deadpanned, “No.”
With some citing his low-energy delivery, others joked that “Kevin Costner has definitely never watched Barbie” and “doesn’t want to be there.” Someone else tweeted that “Kevin Costner saying the Barbie monologue was not on my 2024 award season bingo card.”
Jennifer Lawrence Is Outta Here
When No Hard Feelings nominee Jennifer Lawrence’s category came up for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture, she mouthed to the camera, “If I don’t win, I’m leaving” to the camera. (Spoiler alert: She didn’t win.)
Fans appreciated the joke, with one writing, “Jennifer Lawrence is so unserious,” and another affectionately adding that “we don’t deserve” her.
A Strong Suits Reunion
Amid a popular resurgence four years after going off the air, former Suits cast members Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, Gina Torres, and Sarah Rafferty reunited to present at the Golden Globes. “My happiest scream of the night came for this sensational Suits reunion. Love them all so much (and we miss you Meghan Markle),” one fan posted on X .
The nostalgia even inspired another user to demand “a new season of Suits right now.” There’s a Suits spinoff in the works, so asking for a new season of the show didn’t seem so far-fetched.
Will Ferrell & Kristen Wiig For 2025?
After presenters Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s onstage bit had the audience roaring with laughter, some fans on X nominated the duo to host the Golden Globes in the future, while others wondered why they weren’t chosen this year. “You’re telling me Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig were in the building and they aren’t hosting?” one viewer joked.
Another agreed that producers missed a major comedy opportunity, adding, “MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.”
Their bit at the 2024 awards show reminded fans of their unforgettable previous presenting gig from over a decade ago. In 2013, Wiig and Ferrell hilariously tried to guess what each nominated film was about, based on their titles alone.
The consensus online was that it would be a crime if another 10 years went by without a repeat performance.
