If any of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children was going to have a raucous new hobby, it was always going to be Prince Louis. The youngest of the Wales kids has entertained royal watchers with his hilarious, cheeky antics at royal events over the years, like making faces during his great-grandmother’s jubilee and dancing during his grandfather’s birthday parade.

Now, the 6-year-old prince has picked up an instrument that is apparently disturbing his royal household. William gave an update on Louis during the 2024 Tusk Conservation Awards at London’s Savoy on Nov. 27, and he shared that his youngest child is learning the drums. It’s a new hobby William is still adjusting to, it seems.

Louis’ musical leanings came up while the future King of England was speaking to Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones and Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, per the Daily Mail. “My youngest is learning the drums,” William said. “That’s why I spend my entire life with my fingers in my ears.”

Although the Prince of Wales may not be a big fan of his son’s music yet, he is of course still looking out for Louis’ interests. As a royal patron of Tusk, which advocates for conservation across Africa, he shared in a speech that it’s important to him that we preserve nature for future generations.

“I want my children to live in a world where swallows still migrate, gorillas still live in the cloud forests of Uganda, and rhinos still roam the arid rangelands of Namibia,” William said in his Tusk Awards speech, referencing Louis and his older siblings, Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 9.

Life With Louis

Even before he took up the drums, Louis was a royal rock star of sorts. He’s gone viral on multiple occasions with his meme-worthy facial expressions and actions. For example, there was a memorable occasion when he and his siblings were helping out at a baby bank with their mom when he secretly added extra clothes to the pile that Charlotte was folding. Another time, he ignored his dad when William put out a hand for him to hold on the first day of school.

For all that Louis is known as a cheeky little brother, he has big-hearted moments, too. After the death of his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Kate told mourners that he helped comfort her.

“My little Louis is just so sweet,” she told a crowd outside Windsor Castle, per Hello! magazine. “He said, ‘Mummy, don’t worry because she is now with Great-Grandpa.’”
