In a surprising announcement during The Bachelor finale, host Jesse Palmer revealed that Jenn Tran will be the next Bachelorette.

For weeks leading up to the final episode, many Bachelor Nation fans speculated that Daisy Kent and Maria Georgas — two contestants from Joey Graziadei’s season — were the front-runners for the Bachelorette role. When Palmer brought Daisy back on stage for a second time in the finale, she surprised viewers by revealing she wasn’t ready to take on the role.

The show didn’t wait long to reveal the Season 21 lead, bringing out former Bachelorette Charity Lawson to introduce Jenn during the live special.

“I’m overwhelmed, it’s crazy,” Jenn told Palmer. “It feels so surreal to be sitting here.”

A Meaningful First

Jenn’s casting is an important first for the franchise. As Palmer announced during the special, she’s the first Asian American lead for The Bachelorette.

Jenn, a physician assistant, told Palmer that she is “so, so grateful” for helping the franchise achieve this milestone.

“Growing up, I always wanted to see Asian representation on TV,” she said. “Now, to be here today... being like, ‘I am going to be the main character in my story,’ I can’t help but think of how many people I’m inspiring and how many lives I can impact.”

Jenn’s Bachelor Journey So Far

During Joey’s Bachelor premiere, Jenn made a memorable first impression by ditching the limo and arriving by go-kart instead.

During her one-on-one date with Joey in Week 3, she braved her fears and joined him surfing. They continued bonding into Week 6 when Jenn charmed him during an awkward group date in Montreal. However, their connection started to wane as the show neared hometown dates. Jenn worried about Joey meeting her mother, saying that he’d likely feel “most comfortable with” the other contestants’ families. Ultimately, she was eliminated the week before Hometowns.

After her elimination, she spoke about how the show helped her relationship with her mother. “She’s never really seen me as, like, a full adult,” she said during the Women Tell All reunion special on March 18. “But watching me on TV and watching me fall in love, she’s really seen me grow into my own, and it’s been monumental for our relationship.”
