These 'Gilmore Girls' Halloween Costume Ideas Pair Perfectly With Your Favorite Cup Of Coffee

Warner Bros.

If you've always dreamed about living in Stars Hollow, there's a chance you'll be inspired to create a last-minute Gilmore Girls Halloween costume this year. The best part about this show is that you can make it a full group idea (since there's plenty of fun townies), a duo-costume with your bestie (as Rory and Lorelai), or even a single costume. After all, Lorelai had no problem flying solo for a few years.

Another great thing about Gilmore Girls Halloween costumes is the fact that you may be able to use a few items you already have. While they were born into an affluent family, the Rory and Lorelai way of living is a bit thriftier. So, unless you're pairing up as Emily and Richard and you're looking to duplicate the look exactly, cost shouldn't be a big roadblock you'll have to cross.

Since the girls themselves grew throughout seven seasons (and that's not even counting the relaunch on Netflix), you also have time on your side. For example, those with school uniforms still laying around could easily pull together a Chilton version of Rory.

Of course, if you didn't attend a private school and still want to avoid the "who are you dressed as?" conversation at your Halloween party, there are a few essentials you may want to grab to make your costume complete. Also, there's plenty of Gilmore Girls merchandise you can grab last minute to make your look even more special.

1

Rory As A Golfer

Beret, $12, Amazon | Buttoned Shirt, $50, Land's End | Khakis, $30, Target

Back in season one, Rory barely knew her grandfather. Luckily, a random golfing trip ended up saving their relationship, which further blossomed into something special. But as heartwarming as that is, we have to admit that Rory looked adorably goofy while out on the field.

Here's what you'll need to complete the look:

The most important part is trying to replicate Rory's iconic golfing beret. You'll also want to find a formal pale pink buttoned shirt. Rory also rocked a pair of high-waisted khakis, which is a pretty solid wardrobe item to have on hand anyway.

2

"First Day of Chilton" Lorelai

Shorts, $7, Target | Pink Striped Shirt, $10, Kohls

If you've marathoned the show a lot (and who hasn't?) you're probably very familiar with this look, as it's featured in the opening credits. Poor Lorelai lost track of time and had to show up to Rory's first day looking a tad bit unprepared.

Here's what you'll need to complete the look:

If you don't have a pair of jeans you'd be willing to repurpose into cut-offs, consider buying a pair of medium-wash denim shorts. Lorelai's pink zebra striped tee is a bit harder to replicate in 2017, so a pink striped shirt should be a decent replacement.

3

Luke

Flannel, $40, Hollister | Jeans, $25, Hollister | Blue Cap, $14, Old Navy

The best part about Luke is the fact that his look rarely changes. And when it does, it's for a big event. It might be safe to say that Luke is the easiest costume to pull off in all of Stars Hollow.

Here's what you'll need to complete the look:

Of course you'll need to wear an oversized flannel shirt along with a pair of relaxed straight jeans. Really, any pair of jeans will do. The big part of this costume will be the blue cap which, of course, you'll be wearing backwards. There's a very good chance you already own all of these.

4

Lane Kim

Beck T-Shirt, $25, Rock | Oval Glasses, $20, Amazon | Drumsticks, $4, Walmart

Who doesn't love Lane? This rocker is the perfect last-minute costume, since — just like Luke — you may already have a bunch of items around the house.

Here's how to complete the look:

Lane is hopelessly in love with music, especially bands that could be labeled as indie rock. Back in season one, she claimed that she loved (and understood) Beck, so a Beck t-shirt would be the perfect starter. Lane was also known for her oval glasses so they're a must-have for this costume. Finally, as a drummer, these drumsticks would be the perfect prop.

5

"Yale Daily News" Rory

Turtleneck, $15, JCPenney

While Rory didn't join a sorority at college, she did have some light "hazing" at the Yale Daily News. In short, she had to make a newspaper hat. Which, in her eyes, is "not supposed to start a trend."

Here's how to complete the look:

To complete the look, you'll need a newspaper — which you can find at a convenience store near you. If you happen to live near Yale, even better. You can get creative with the folding to make the hat yourself. Otherwise, the key item you'll need is a long-sleeved maroon turtleneck.

6

Standard Lorelai

Luke's Shirt, $16+, Etsy | Cardigan, $28, Old Navy | Jeans, $40, Old Navy | Boots, $25, Charlotte Russe

Despite the Chilton incident, Lorelai was somewhat more fashionable than she thought. If you're looking to dress up as the basic idea of Lorelai, there are a few things that'll make your costume stand out.

Here's how to complete the look:

Lorelai is a huge fan of Luke's coffee — so, she'd probably own a Luke's t-shirt. Since Lorelai digs layers, consider adding a cute and functional long cardigan. You can add your own pair of jeans to the look, or buy your own medium-rinse jeans. As for shoes, Lorelai would be fond of a heeled boot.

7

Emily Gilmore

Skirt Suit, $80, JCPenney | Glasses, $40, Kohls | White Earrings, $25, Etsy

There are plenty of reasons why Emily Gilmore would be the ideal Halloween costume. If you saw those Netflix episodes, you'll know she emerged as one of the strongest ladies of them all.

Here's what you'll need to complete the look:

Emily is no stranger to the suit. This red and black skirt suit almost perfectly channels her look from the Chilton fashion show. (Hint: Buy two, and you can be an Emily and Lorelai duo.) Since this is Emily Gilmore we're talking about, a perfect accessory would be a glass perfect for holding a Manhattan. And don't forget a pair of vintage white earrings.

8

Sookie St. James

Chef Coat, $17, Happy Chef | Red Bandana, $6, Claire's | Gold Hoop Earrings, $30, Kohl's

If your goal is to be the lovably clumsy chef for Halloween, you'll be happy to know that a Sookie ensemble is pretty easy to put together — even last minute.

Here's what you'll need to complete the look:

You'll need a blue long-sleeved chef coat which you'll probably be able to get a bit of extra use out of after the holiday. Sookie was also known for wearing a red bandana even though any bandana would do, as she occasionally swapped. Sookie also wore gold hoop earrings. Also, it's a must to wear your hair in pigtails. Seriously.

9

"Life and Death Brigade" Rory

Black & White Floral Gown, $40, Poshmark | Blue Neckerchief Scarf, $7, Amazon | Black Umbrella, $7, Walmart

Rory's "Life and Death Brigade" look was tops. Logan definitely has an eye for dresses, that's for sure. This costume can also easily be switched into a couple's costume, since who doesn't want to experience life as a Huntzberger for a day?

Here's what you'll need to complete the look:

If you have a strapless ballgown in your closet already, this would be the perfect chance to bust it out again. If not, you can pick up a strapless gown either online, or at a thrift store. (bonus, if you can find one with a floral pattern near the top.) You'll also want to bring a blue neckerchief or silk scarf and, of course, a black umbrella.

10

Dean

Green Apron, $11.67, Walmart | Long-Sleeved Tee, $10, Kohls | Wig, $16, Amazon

You may not have been Team Dean throughout the season (since those people are surprisingly rare) but it doesn't mean that you or your partner can't dress up like him during his best years at Stars Hollow High.

Here's what you'll need to complete the look:

Working at Doose's, Dean often wore a green apron. If you want to kick it up a notch, make sure to write "Doose's" in Sharpie right up top. Under that, a maroon long-sleeved tee would be perfect. If you're not blessed with short, light brown (or blonde) hair that you can part in the center, the wig is a must. Otherwise, you might just look like an average grocery store employee.

11

"Donna Reed" Rory

Waist Apron, $3, Amazon | Gingham Print Dress, $125, Etsy | Pumps, $67.45, Shoes.com

One of the most memorable episodes of Gilmore Girls revolves around Rory cooking Dean an extravagant dinner while Lorelai tries to chase down a baby chick. If you ever wanted an excuse to buy a gingham print dress, this is the perfect one.

Here's what you'll need to complete the look:

While you might want to look at thrift stores for an orange gingham dress, Etsy also has a few incredible selections. Next, you'll want to look for a white waist apron. To pull it all off, you'll want to find a cute pair of orange pumps.

12

"Casual Emily"

Baseball tee, $11.80, OpenTip | Blue Jeans, $29, Old Navy | Gold Chain, $8, Amazon

When the promos for the Netflix revival came out, fans were shocked by one detail — Emily was wearing a t-shirt. And jeans. And, well, it hit people pretty hard.

Here's what you'll need to complete the look:

Emily was wearing a short sleeved baseball tee, a pair of jeans, and last but not least, a gold chain. Because at the end of the day, she's still Emily Gilmore.

13

"Wedding Guest" Lorelai

Pink Floral Dress, $43, DressMePlus | Floral Crown, $9, Amazon

Remember Liz and TJ's wedding? It was Renaissance-themed and happened right in the town square. But this episode is pretty memorable for another reason — it's the first time there's some real spark between Luke and Lorelai.

Luckily, you can achieve Lorelai's look pretty easily.

Here's what you'll need:

Lorelai wore a flowery pink halter dress, and paired it together with a pretty magical flower crown. While you can assemble your own crown at a craft's store, you can also buy a pre-assembled replica. Make sure to wear your hair in curls to really pull it off. If needed, you can find yourself a dressy "Luke" to make it a couples costume.
