17 Movies & Shows To Watch While Waiting For 'Wonder Woman'

Warner Bros.

It feels like we've been waiting forever for Wonder Woman, the first major female superhero blockbuster film. After years of campaigning, and waiting, the year of Wonder Woman is almost here. And, with a few months left to go before the film's June 2 release date, fans are looking for movies and TV shows to watch while waiting for Wonder Woman to finally hit theaters. Because the film will be one of the first of its kind (a female-led superhero movie with a female director), it's hard to find anything that can really fill the void while we count down the days. But, these shows and movies starring kickass women should be able to make the wait for Wonder Woman a bit more bearable.

Even though fans have been deprived of female superhero movies, Hollywood has given us many awesome other kind of female protagonists to root for. Granted, not all of them are good Wonder Woman substitutes, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supergirl will do the trick in a pinch. Of course, if you only want Wonder Woman to keep you entertained until June 2, you can just stick to watching old episodes of Wonder Woman and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but where's the fun in that? These 17 movies and TV shows to watch while waiting for Wonder Woman will give you a variety of empowering entertainment to get you pumped up for summer's big release.

1

'Wonder Woman'

Before we had Gal Gadot, Lynda Carter was the world's most famous onscreen Wonder Woman. Carter starred in the Wonder Woman series from 1975-1979, helping make the superhero an international icon.

2

'Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice'

If you want to be immersed in the DC film universe before seeing Wonder Woman, then you have to watch Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the film in which Gadot made her Wonder Woman debut.

3

'Captain America: The First Avenger'

Of all the modern superhero movies, Captain America: The First Avenger looks like the one with the most similarities to Wonder Woman. Both are period films that take place during a World War, and feature fish out of water heroes.

4

'Fast Five'

Gadot's role in the Fast & Furious franchise started in the fourth film, Fast & Furious, but she has way more to do in Fast Five.

5

'Jessica Jones'

Jessica Jones is one of the best female superheroes onscreen today. If you want something a little darker to satisfy your superhero cravings before Wonder Woman, she's your girl.

6

'Star Trek Beyond'

Star Trek Beyond will give Wonder Woman fans a sneak peek at Chris Pine's gorgeous awesomeness while also providing them with plenty of women kicking men's ass.

7

'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will help you get your rebellion on before Wonder Woman hits theaters.

8

'Xena: Warrior Princess'

Xena: Warrior Princess is basically Wonder Woman 2.0.

9

'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'

Want to watch a woman save the universe over and over again? Look no further than Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

10

'Mad Max: Fury Road'

Wonder Woman comes from a world where there are no men. In the world of Mad Max: Fury Road, a society without men sounds like paradise.

11

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

Watch a woman save the universe? Yes please.

12

'Supergirl'

Supergirl is about a woman with superpowers who comes to Earth from another planet. So, basically Wonder Woman but with a slightly less revealing outfit.

13

'Monster'

Before she took on Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins was best known for directing Charlize Theron's way to the Oscars in Monster.

14

'Edge Of Tomorrow'

Watch Emily Blunt go full superhero in Edge of Tomorrow. She's so badass in it, she out-actions Tom Cruise.

15

'Sucker Punch'

Immerse yourself in the Zack Snyder aesthetic with Sucker Punch, a movie about five girls who escape into fantasy worlds to avoid their awful realities.

16

'V For Vendetta'

V for Vendetta is probably the closest thing we have to a female superhero origin story, at least in modern cinema.

17

'Haywire'

Haywire is pretty much just two hours of a woman flawlessly beating up men. It's amazing.

Wonder Woman really can't come soon enough, but at least we've got some quality TV and movies to keep us occupied while we wait.
