In a decision that's sure to get Donald Trump's attention, Alec Baldwin won Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy at the 2017 Emmys for his uncanny portrayal of the president. Baldwin was undoubtedly the frontrunner in this category, based on the popularity of his impersonation and ongoing guest actor status. In his speech, he even offered President Trump the statue — finally, in a way.

"I suppose I should say 'At long last, Mr. President, here is your Emmy,'" Baldwin said. Earlier in the night, host Stephen Colbert also poked fun at Trump's bitter history with the television awards, having never won one for The Apprentice. The Emmys were deemed "rigged" way before Trump used the term to talk about the election.

"I want to thank my wife," Baldwin continued in his speech. "My wife and I had three children in three years, and we didn't have a child last year during the SNL season. I wonder if there's a correlation? All you men out there, you put that orange wig on, it's birth control. Trust me." Yikes! How much do you wanna bet that that is the part of the speech that provokes a presidential tweet storm later on?

The actor then went on to thank Lorne Michaels, the Saturday Night Live writers, his fellow comedic performers, and several other staff members who welcomed him back to 30 Rockefeller Plaza in the last year. Then, Baldwin's acceptance speech ended with a sentiment that everyone needed to hear — actors and regular people alike. It's something to remember when the news gets you down:

"I just wanna say, if I leave anybody out I'm sorry but I do want to get this in which is — you know, I always remember when someone told me when you die you don't remember a bill that Congress passed or a decision the Supreme Court made or an address made by the President. You remember a song. You remember a line from a movie. You remember a play. You remember a book, a painting, a poem. What we do is important. For all of you out there in motion pictures and television. Don't stop what you're doing; the audience is counting on you. Thank you."

Art matters. Art makes a difference. It's not just an escape, it's essential. Whether you are taking a stance or provided a much needed break, art enriches our lives in a lasting way. Even if you think that people in Hollywood should stick to their jobs and not comment on politics, the creative content itself can't be stopped. We need it in trying times more than ever.

Baldwin's win not only came with an important speech, but was a well-deserved honor for the actor. Also in the running for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series were Louie Anderson for Baskets, Ty Burrell for Modern Family, Tituss Burgess for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Veep co-stars Tony Hale, and Matt Walsh.

Baldwin has won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series for 30 Rock in 2008 and 2009, and he's been nominated 11 other times. Saturday Night Live took home multiple trophies at the 2017 Emmy Awards. The variety series had a banner year, winning Outstanding Variety Series and Directing Variety Series. Kate McKinnon won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. At the Creative Arts Emmys, they won five more awards.

Baldwin truly covered all bases in his speech. He got in not one but two burns at the president he imitates on Saturday Night Live, but also managed to add a dash of inspiration and hope. See? Not everything was mean-spirited at the Emmy Awards. At the end of the day, we're here to celebrate television, storytelling, and magic. The jokes are just an added spice.
