With the political climate as intense as it is, it's nice to see celebrities using fashion to make a statement, not just in their streetwear, but on the red carpet as well. Whether that's Emma Watson and Emma Roberts supporting sustainable fashion, or celebrities wearing Planned Parenthood pins to the Oscars. According to a tweet from before the ceremony, Ava DuVernay's 2017 Oscars dress was about more than just the gorgeous design.

There were Planned Parenthood pins and ACLU ribbons at the Oscars this year, but this director made a strong statement in a more subtle way. DuVernay's Oscar's dress was by Ashi Studio, a label based in Lebanon, and she chose to wear it as "a small sign of solidarity."

According to the brand's website, the designer Mohammed Ashi launched Ashi Studio in 2007 in Beirut. DuVernay isn't the only star who has worn their designs to a big event. Janelle Monae wore one of Ashi Studio's gorgeous ensembles to the 2017 NAACP Image Awards. DuVernay's dress was equally as stunning — she opted for a long-sleeved, silvery lace gown with a high neck. It clearly meant a lot to the director, according to the tweet she sent out shortly after the red carpet.

Here's a look at the dress from all angles, so you can take it in.

And another one, just because.

Does it get any better than this? I think not.
