Dr. Pimple Popper Just Released Her Own Blackhead Tweezers — And Here’s How They Work

Dr. Pimple Popper

If you've ever sat in front of your bathroom mirror and tried to remove your own blackheads at home, you know it ain't easy. Between the poor lighting, your vision, and well, not knowing what you're doing, you can end up worse than when you started. Enter: Dr. Pimple Popper's new blackhead tweezers designed to help you more easily coax those suckers out of your pores without scarring your face.

If you're a #popaholic and follow Dr. Pimple Popper's social media accounts, you know that Dr. Sandra Lee is basically famous for her gnarly blackhead extractions. There's nothing more satisfying (or gross) than watching her in action, digging into a blackhead and releasing a clogged pore.

As a result, Lee has basically created an army of followers who are now not only obsessed with watching these disgustingly gratifying videos, but also trying to remove their own blackheads at home. But unless you've got the skills and tools Lee and her fellow professionals have, things could get ugly, real fast. For this reason, Lee launched her very own skin care line, complete with extraction instruments so you can use exactly what she does at her clinic.

While her comedone extractor (which she sells on her site) is her favorite tool for extracting "pretty much every kind of blackhead and whitehead," she didn't think it was enough, which is why she developed blackhead tweezers.

"I've always searched for a tool that could gently and safely pinch and squeeze the skin, much like fingers or Q-tips can, but can do this in some nooks and crannies, getting into very tight corners on the skin, and do this more gently and safely and in the most sterile, medical manner," Dr. Lee tells me over email. "There’s something extra satisfying about using tweezers for extracting to actually pinch and squeeze the skin delicately, and I wanted to create something perfect to pull out those blackheads!"

Dr. Lee suggests using her new tweezers in conjunction with the comedone extractor.

"[It] gives you everything you need to successfully tackle any blackhead on any area of the body. These tweezers can be used in addition to the comedone extractor — a blackhead you might not be able to remove with the extractor might be better suited for a tweezer extraction, and vice versa," she says.

Think of it this way: The comedone extractor should be used to "push from above to push the blackhead out" while the tweezers should be used to "squeeze from the sides, below the blackhead, to coax it from under the skin," like below.

Of course, before you go to town on your face, make sure you proceed with caution. While Dr. Pimple Popper's tools can be used to remove blackheads and whiteheads, it doesn't mean you should be using it obsessively. "You can absolutely use both blackhead extraction tools in-between professional extractions but of course, you need to be careful and make sure you are doing so properly with the least amount of trauma to your skin," she advises.

So, how much is too much?

"It really depends on how many blackheads you have, but I don’t think there’s an exact regimen as long as you’re being careful by prepping the skin properly and only removing what is ready to be extracted. Take a hot shower, or use steam on your skin to soften those blackhead so they slide out more easily. Just remember that with anything pimple related — there is a time to pop and a time to stop!"
