Karlie Kloss' Kode With Klossy Program Is Expanding

Karlie Kloss reigns supreme as one of the most successful models in the world, but fashion is only one aspect of her successful career. Kloss' work in coding is a big part of her life as well, and it's about to get even bigger. Today marks the launch of 2017's Kode With Klossy program, and it's about to get 10x better: this year, Kode With Klossy is expanding to provide nearly 300 scholarships to young girls, growing from 21 scholarships in 2015 and 80 scholarships in 2016. That's right — a whopping 3-0-0. Start drafting your HTML love letters now.

Kode With Klossy is what happens when a supermodel decides to start a coding camp. After her first coding class three years ago, Kloss launched Kode With Klossy in an effort to increase women's opportunities in the technology and computer science industries. According to the Girl Scout Research Institute, 74 percent of high school girls are interested in the STEM field. Yet, the National Center for Women & Information Technology reports that women account for only 18 percent of undergraduate degrees in computer and information sciences.

That's where Kode With Klossy steps in, superhero cape and all. This year's program will consist of 15 summer camps in 10 US cities — New York, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Oakland, Chicago, Austin, Detroit, Miami, Atlanta and New Orleans. During the free two-week program, students will explore concepts in both front-end and back-end software engineering and app development.

The mission of Kode With Klossy is to close the gender gap in computer science fields and above all, empower girls everywhere to delve into the power, creativity and community behind code.
