When it comes to the Met Gala, it's all about the accessories. Yes, the stunning gowns are great to look at, but, like all works of art, when you look closer you can often see even more detail. Lena Dunham's 2017 Met Gala outfit was no different. It looked stunning from far away, but, upon a closer look, the accessories stole the show.

With the theme of the Met Gala theme of Comme des Garcons/Rei Kawakubo, you already knew that the color and pattern would be on point. But this actress is sneaking a little politics into the mix as well. According to her tweet before the event, Dunham wore a Planned Parenthood pin to the Met Gala. Because, duh. There's no rule that says you can't be political on the red carpet — Madonna even said that her entire 2016 Met Gala look was a political statement — so more power to Dunham.

The rest of the look was stunning as well. Dunham opted for a red and black checkerboard patterned gown. The dress had tons of volume and gave off an edgy vibe. She paired it with a messy up-do and a smokey eye, which gave off a casual meets dressy vibe.

Like I said before, all the Met Gala outfits deserve a closer look.

Luckily, this time Dunham pointed out her details for everyone to see with her Instagram post.

Something tells me this won't be the only political statement that will walk the red carpet, either.
