Nostril Hair Extensions Are A Thing That Exists & The Internet Can Go Away Now

by Melanie Richtman

Another day, another ridiculous beauty trend the world didn't need. From feather eyebrows to crotch jewelry, the internet is filled with some, erm, unique beauty ideas (that are obviously just ploys to get attention #sorrynotsorry). This week's viral beauty trend is nostril hair extensions, and yes, it's as weird as it sounds.

In the photo shared by Instagram user @gret_chen_chen, fake eyelashes were glued around her nostrils, with the caption "nose hair extensions." Lovely. It seems as though @gret_chen_chen was just messing around and being goofy when she attempted to try something out of the box, but it seems unlikely that nostril hair extensions will catch on with the general public. Let's hope not, at least.

Now, technically, this isn't a real trend. It can't be. Because like why? Frankly, the fact that one person tried to make nostril hair extensions a thing one time is more than enough. One time too many, if we're being honest.

Have viral beauty trends gone too far? Are we underestimating the potential of our noses when it comes to beauty? Can it be a trend if no one in real life actually wears in public for people to see? So many unanswered questions.

Unfortunately, this isn't even one of the weirdest viral trends to hit the internet. There are plenty of other viral beauty trends equally as "wtf" as nose hair extensions that you will be anxious to forget. Let's take a trip down memory lane, shall we?

Feathered Eyebrows

Feathered eyebrows are kind of cool when you first look at them, and then once you start envisioning them on your face they seem kind of strange. But honestly, mad props to makeup artist Stella Sironen for coming up with this, because it now seems painfully obvious that eyebrows are basically feathers.

Crotch Jewelry

I don't think this one is catching on any time soon, but the fact that crotch jewelry, aka "beachtails," exists is frankly puzzling. No, just, no.

Glitter Roots

This trend is totally forgivable, because let's face it, it's quite pretty. Not very practical unless you're going to Coachella, but very pretty. It's even inspired other, more wearable ways to wear glitter in your hair, like strobing glitter hairspray, which is just awesome.

Clown Contouring

Highlighting and contouring are a great thing. In fact, they were such great trends that they aren't even a trend anymore because they are such a staple in people's makeup routines. Strobing was also a worthwhile trend. Who needs that lousy bronzer anyway? (JK, bronzer is great). But the clown contouring trend just took it all too far. It might be effective, but geez, at what cost? Seems a little unnecessary when you could just use the original (and simple) highlight and contour technique.

Using Tampons As Beauty Blenders

This is just a blatant attempt to shock and awe, or break the internet, if you will (and we all know only the Kardashians can do that). People have been wearing makeup for ages. If tampons were the best method for applying makeup, we would've figured it out by now. Plus, tampons are expensive, so why don't we all just stick to washable, reusable beauty blenders.

A Full Body Blackhead Mask

No one was challenging vlogger Nicole Skyes to do this, she just decided to create the full body blackhead mask challenge when peel-off masks were at their peak. Did people watch it? Yes. Should people have watched it? Debatable. Don't get me wrong, innovation is a great thing, and if people didn't experiment and try to come up with new ways to use old products, I'm sure some of our favorite things wouldn't exist. But sometimes, a blackhead mask should just be applied to faces.
