Steve Harvey Mocks His Miss Universe Mistake

Instead of banishing him to working at low-rate clubs and the like because of his name mix-up last year, Steve Harvey is back hosting the 2017 Miss Universe pageant. Of course, the competition couldn’t let last year’s major blunder go, and Steve Harvey opened Miss Universe by making fun of his mistake with a contingency plan should it happen again.

For those of you who missed it, at last year's Miss Universe pageant, Steve Harvey accidentally read the name of the first runner-up (Miss Colombia) as the winner. After the crying and celebrating happened for a minute or two, Harvey had to sheepishly come onto the stage and report that he had made a huge mistake. It was awkward, to say the least. This year, Harvey had a plan — a trap door that would allow him to escape should he make the same name misstep again. I would hope that his cards are highlighted or something for 2017, because how awful would it be if he did it again? Unfortunately for Harvey’s posse, his escape plans involve leaving them all there, but, honestly, it’s every man for himself when Twitter is after you for crushing a young woman’s dreams. Harvey also said, "If you make a mistake, you just have to keep on moving forward," and I think that's a great attitude to have.

A cardboard cutout will stand in for Harvey if he makes another mistake, but I think he’ll be OK this year — super model Ashley Graham will be helping him out, and I’m very, very certain of her reading comprehension skills. So, let’s move on and get the pageant going — after all, we can’t make a joke about this every year.
