Summer is in full swing and the fiery sun is ablaze, but the heat isn't the only thing you have to watch out for. If you've been experiencing irritated red skin as a result from too much sun, then you might be wondering how you can treat a sunburn naturally. The good news is that there is a simple, common pantry item that can heal your skin and keep the pain minimal.

Of course, there are tons of products on the market that will help you quickly heal a sunburn. From oatmeal baths to aloe moisturizers, you can purchase products to soothe the pain of your burn. However, if you're in a pinch or have gone totally natural with your skin care or beauty routine, there is hope for healing the unfortunate sun exposure that happened on your Sunday Funday.

According to Dr. Erin Gilbert of Vichy Consulting Dermatologist, a common pantry item is actually best for healing sunburn naturally. Apple Cider Vinegar is her go-to.

"Start with apple cider vinegar: Apply it liberally with a washcloth and sleep with it on overnight," Gilbert tells me over email. "You will smell slightly like salad dressing, but it reduces the redness by the next morning." Isn't a salad dressing scent better than blistering pain?

Apple cider vinegar's beauty properties aren't just great for your sunburns, though. The product has been touted as basically a cure-all for many common skin and beauty ailments.

What else can apple cider vinegar do?

1. Treat Dandruff

With just water and apple cider vinegar, you can create a spray that will help eliminate dandruff.

2. Brighten Skin

Want to get a glow? ACV can brighten your skin when mixed with water. Instant toner? Check.

3. Whiten Teeth

Rub a little ACV on your pearly whites, and the pH will help lift stains.

If you've got a summertime sunburn you want to treat naturally, or if you're on vacation and in a pinch, simply grab some apple cider vinegar and you'll have all your beauty and skin care needs met.
