'Taken' Season 2 May Be In Peril

In my opinion, it really was a brilliant idea for NBC to make a series that shows audiences where Bryan Mills from the movie Taken acquired his "particular set of skills." After all, the Taken films did extremely well at the box office, and those famous lines said by Liam Neeson (you know the ones) have engrained themselves in popular culture. Taken the television series focuses on Mills' early career as a CIA operative, while he hones his lethal skill set and seeks revenge for the murder of his sister. With the first season finale airing on May 1, will Taken return for Season 2?

Well, there is no official word from NBC just yet about whether or not we will see Mills be a badass for another season of television. The show was placed directly after The Voice in network's schedule, which should have meant that a built-in audience was already sitting in front of their televisions when Taken started. But according to the show's TVByTheNumbers ratings, it appears that not everyone stayed on their couch when The Voice ended each week.

The critical consensus for Taken isn't exactly glowing. The aggregate Rotten Tomatoes score for the series is just 35%, which doesn't bode well for a prestige renewal. So with both lukewarm ratings and lukewarm reviews, things aren't looking especially good for Taken Season 2.

It seems like the similar plot may be what audiences are pulling away from. I think that for Taken to simply switch the female relative to be rescued/avenged from his daughter in the movies to his sister in the series was just not enough of a fresh take for fans to keep tuning in. As much fun as it is to see how Mills becomes the man audiences see in the movies, can the series really keep the plot fresh?

I personally hope that the network gives Taken another chance. The action prequel deserves to have its story be fleshed out for a little while longer. Taken's fate is still up in the air, but hopefully fans will have their questions answered by an official announcement soon.
