Phoebe Bridgers has arrived at the Met Gala, folks. And, as fans might expect, the Grammy-nominated artist showed out, bringing her best, most gothic self to the so-called Oscars of fashion.

After making her Met debut last May in a glimmering, crystal-embroidered halter gown by Jonathan Simkhai, the “Motion Sickness” singer attended this year with designer Tory Burch. According to E!’s live red carpet coverage, her mesh-accented, pearl-covered bustier dress was specifically designed to reference her signature skeleton motif.

If you’re not privy, bones have been Bridgers’ thing since she sported a Halloween-inspired skeleton suit on the cover of her famed 2020 album Punisher. She’s been playing it up ever since, later wearing a Thom Browne skeleton gown to the 2021 Grammys. Today, she brought the aesthetic full circle, taking the emo kid favorite to the most glamorous red carpet on earth.

“I’ve worn skeleton costumes for my entire adult life, but this is a really cool, subtle take on it,” Bridgers said of her standout Met Gala dress. A trailing pleated chiffon train completed the gown, lending the perfect dash of drama to the look. Burch revealed that the design “worked perfectly against the backdrop of Karl Lagerfeld’s signatures.”

Well done, Bridgers and Burch. Well done.
