Game On: The 2026 World Cup

It’s been 32 years since the FIFA World Cup was held in the United States, and the vibe going into summer 2026 is buzzing. There have already been a few upsets in the qualifying rounds, watch parties are hitting calendars, and more than 2 million tickets have been secured. If you’re a longtime fan of the sport, you may have a team you’re ready to root for from start to finish. But if you’re more of a casual viewer with a dose of FOMO, there’s a ton to look forward to as well.

Because while soccer’s popularity is still growing in the States, the quadrennial event is a worldwide phenomenon (1.5 billion people tuned in to the 2022 final). You might be inspired to break out of your normal workout routine, try out a new sporty aesthetic, or read about fictional romances that stem from chemistry on the field.

Fashion girls will want to embrace “blokecore” in all of its glory with unexpected ’fits featuring jerseys or cleat-inspired sneakers. Music fans should mark their calendars for the historic halftime show on July 19 featuring Madonna, Shakira, and BTS — yes, really. Those who played soccer in their youth will feel nostalgic, those watching for the first time will want to know how those players on the field got so damn fast.

So consider this your guide to it all, whether you’re a tried-and-true follower or a total newbie. Here, all are welcome. Get ready for kickoff.
