The Bad Moms Creators Are “100% Open” To A 3rd Movie
Writer-directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore already outlined a follow-up — and I need it.

The Bad Moms know how to have a good time — so is there hope of a third rowdy outing for Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, and Kathryn Hahn?
The trio first teamed up for 2016’s Bad Moms and followed up with A Bad Moms Christmas the year after. Nearly a decade on, writer-directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore still love the rule-breaking besties who decide to buck expectations and live a little for themselves.
As Moore tells Bustle of the prospect of a third movie, “We’re 100% open to it, and we have a couple of different ideas that we’re working with ... I don’t think there’s a script written, but we had an outline for one that was more of a road trip.”
Moore noted that while some company logistics would have to be figured out, the creative team is very down. “We’re into it, and I think the actresses are into it,” Moore says. “They had a great time shooting it. We love those women.”
Similarly, Lucas says he’d “make 20 more” Bad Moms movies if he could. “Both of those movies were so fun. The first one was great, and then bringing on all the other moms.” In the second film, Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon, and Cheryl Hines came on board to play Amy, Carla, and Kiki’s respective moms — lending hilarious mother-daughter tension to their family holidays.
The filmmakers aren’t alone in their fondness for the franchise. Earlier this year, Hahn opened up about the prospect of returning as the chaos-loving Carla — telling Bustle that after recently running into her castmate Kunis at an awards show, “It feels like this is in the air somewhere. I don’t know what the chances are, but we’re still around.”
As I wait for that hypothetical Bad Moms road trip — surely some of their kids will need to be dropped off at college soon? — Lucas and Moore are continuing their penchant for female-focused comedies, which they’ve likened to love letters for their wives. In theaters now, Spa Weekend follows another group of friends as they take a much-needed trip that turns out to be more raucous than relaxing.
“I love these big silly comedies,” Lucas says. “You go with your friends ... you watch them over and over again. You share the jokes. You remember the lines. Those are the movies we love, and we’re trying to keep this tradition going.”
