'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 4 Returns In Spring

John P Fleenor/FOX

Typically, January marks the return of your favorite shows that went on break shortly before the holidays. However, FOX is doing something different with Season 4 of this series. When Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns after a brief hiatus on Sunday, Jan 1 for a two-part episode, that's actually the fall finale. The show is going on hiatus again. No official winter, or perhaps even spring, premiere date has been set by the network at this time.

The new sitcom The Mick will take over Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Tuesday time slot after New Girl. According to The Futon Critic, at least six episodes of The Mick have been ordered by FOX, so it may be a while before Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns to finish the fourth season.

That said, based on said winter finale, the wait is going to be worth it. Called "The Fugitive," the episode is star-studded and should prove to be action-packed as well. According to the official episode description, "a mass escape of convicts from a prison van in the streets of Brooklyn sends the entire squad on a manhunt. The only key witness? Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch (guest-starring as himself). Meanwhile, Jake and Amy place a bet on who can bring in the most escaped convicts - and the loser has to move into the winner's apartment. Then, with only one fugitive still on the loose, Jake enlists a surprising ally."

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a comedy, but it does have the ability to keep us hanging. With something as epic as The Fugitive to homage, I can only hope that the episode will leave us hanging. The show is really going out with a bang, which kind of makes the surprise hiatus worth it.
