We Needed This

"We should get dinner sometime!"

Sure. It would be very nice if you could see your friend. But she had to cancel last time because her toddler was sick, and you both forgot to reschedule. She's free this Thursday, but you have a work thing. You could do the 17th... two months out.

Hanging out used to be relatively easy, but it seems that with every passing year, you have more responsibilities that crowd out your free time. Uninterrupted socializing doesn't have to be a fantasy, though. It's about finding creative ways to make it work: running errands together instead of waiting for the perfect dinner reservation, tagging along to each other's work events, bonding over niche hobbies, and meeting new people when parenthood changes your world. And sometimes, gloriously, clearing the calendar and going clubbing until 2 a.m.

Life is chaotic, but so is the best kind of friendship.
