Leila Barghouty is a writer on Bustle’s Rule Breakers team, where she reports on politics and justice. Her bylines at Bustle include interviews with Washington powerhouses like Ilhan Omar and Nancy Mace, and dispatches from women on the frontlines of crises around the world. Leila also works as an investigative journalist at the Open Policing Project, uncovering racial disparity in policing, and reports regularly from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Prior to moving to NYC, she reported from the ground on the Syrian refugee crisis. Her work has appeared in or on Al Jazeera, National Geographic, CNN, Vice News, Slate, Forbes Middle East, and others.
